The Ford Bronco is an American masterpiece in rough-riding, off-road machinery. The Ford Bronco roars onto the scene in 1966 as an off-road vehicle that could compete with the Jeep CJ. Designed by Donald Frey and Lee Iacocca, who previously introduce the world to the iconic Ford Mustang, the Bronco is originally available in three body styles – a station wagon, a half-cab or a roadster. 

While the roadster sports a fun look, the public views it as impractical at the time. It is taken off the market in 1968. The half-cab has an innovative design … although its “baby pickup” look is not well received, either. It, too, is taken off the market in 1972. All that remains is the stylish -and popular- wagon we all know and love. Evolving over time, the Bronco has always maintained a ruggedly-built body coupled with a powerful V8 engine. Subsequent generations mainly see the addition of safety features, such as front crumple zones, three-point seatbelts and driver’s side airbags.

The Ford Motor Company discontinues production on the Bronco in 1996 (and repeatedly claims the decision has nothing to do with the infamous O.J. Simpson car chase on June 17, 1994). Bronco fans are waiting with bated breath for the year 2020, though – Ford is planning a comeback of the legendary 4×4 SUV. Rumor has it, a Bronco mid-size pick-up may be in the works as well.
