The Pierce Silver Arrow was born in 1933 with the slogan 'Suddenly its 1940!' With its futuristic design that hid the spare wheels behind the fenders, the Silver Arrow gave a glimpse of how cars would be designed in the future.
The gorgeous Silver Arrow had an all-steel roof that continued down to its trunk. At a time when Aerodynamics were in their infancy, the Silver Arrow boasted features of the modern era – horns hidden under the hood, parking lights in the headlamp and tail lamp shells, flush fitting rear fender skirts, and recessed, pull-type door handles.
The Silver Arrow's art Deco style left an indelible impact on everything from architecture to industrial design between 1930 and 1950. The style was soon adopted by other automakers of the time. The classic automotive piece of art was designed by Phil Wright and revealed to the public at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair and the 1933 New York Auto Show.
The first model was available on the 144-inch platform with both eight-and twelve-cylinders. The chassis was driven by 175hp, 462-cu.in. L-head V-12, which harmonized beauty with classic performance. The wider angled V-12 engine and the death defying speeds of 115 mph were instantly extolled by the public, and the Arrow was labeled with a hefty price tag of $10,000.
The Silver Arrow was perhaps one of the most sought after luxury cars of the1930s. Cars of this caliber are seldom spotted today, but even after all these years, the Silver Arrow is still recognized as one of the most influential automotive models of all time.
This classic car has garnered a number of feathers in its cap that include 100 points at the CCCA Concours, Best of Show and Most Popular at Burn Center Concours, and Most Elegant at the Pebble Beach Concours.
One of these classic vintage cars recently sold for $2.2 million at Barrett-Jackson’s 2012 Scottsdale auction. Significantly, this was the first public sale where a Silver Arrow had been auctioned since 1973.
