Did you ever wonder what happened to that classic beauty Adam West drove around in the original Batman series?
Until very recently, the car was still in the possession of its original owner and creator, George Barris. Back in 1965, Barris (already a well known car customizer – the mind behind the Munster Koach and the Beverly Hillbillies’ car) was asked to design something special for the upcoming Batman series. Barris decided rather than designing and building an original car, the 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car had the look he wanted. With some designer upgrades and a flashy new paint job, the car was soon ready for filming.
Ever since the series ended in 1968, the car has resided with Barris. Recently, he decided it was time to share the car with the world and let more people have an opportunity to enjoy it like he has over the years.
So last week at the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction, the car went up for bidding. Despite some concern that it might not sell for a very high amount (due to the fact that there have been so many convincing replicas on the market over the years) the Batmobile ended up selling to the highest bidder for $4.6 million.
