Honda has released its multi-million dollar 2012 Super Bowl ad that features Matthew Broderick reprising his 1986 role as Ferris Bueller from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Broderick fakes being sick to avoid working (sound familiar?) but instead of zipping around town in the red 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California, he drives a Honda CR-V. As vintage car enthusiasts, what do you think about this “homage” to the movie car? See the ad here.
As an aside, the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California used in the original movie was actually a fiberglass replica created on the frame of an MG MGB with a Mustang 5.0 engine. Since the real model was too rare and expensive to even rent, the Modena Design and Research Company was hired to create the replica. They were later sued by Ferrari for using the real Ferrari emblems.
Are there other famous vintage movie cars you would like to see resurrected in new media? What classic cars would you like to see back on the big screen? Post your comments below!
