Today, we are featuring five classic cars that recently sold on their site worth noting, including a 1972 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, a 1954 Lagonda, a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL, a 1971 Pontiac GTO, and a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible.
455-Powered 1972 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 5-Speed
This 1972 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is truly breathtaking. It was acquired by the seller’s father in 2018 and then sold recently on the auction site for $88,000.
The father performed subsequent work on this beauty, which included repainting the front end and installing a Tremec TKO 5-speed transmission, a Holley Sniper EE system, a Lunati hydraulic roller camshaft, a Gardner dual exhaust system, a Wilwood 4-wheel disc brake system, an intake fuel pump, and an Edelbrock intake manifold and 87 cc cylinder heads.
The stylish features of this vehicle include a stunning blue paint finish, 17” honeycomb wheels mounted with Continental Sport Plus tires, and a cabin with high-back front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl. The door panels, carpet, and dashboard are all color-coordinated in matching black. And it also features a retro-style digital stereo.
Power for this 1972 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is sent to the rear wheels through the Tremec TKO 5-speed transmission and a 10-bolt rear axle. The 455ci V8 was rebuilt by Butler Performance under previous ownership, and the battery was replaced in 2023.
Additional features include a formula-style steering wheel, a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset clock, and gauges displaying oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temp, and voltage.
1954 Lagonda 3-Litre Mark 1 Drophead Coupe by Tickford
Next in our lineup is a beautiful classic—a 1954 Lagonda 3-Litre. This model is a rare find as it is only one of twenty examples built and features Tickford drophead coupe aluminum bodywork. The original chassis was completed in 1954; since then, it has passed through several stewards’ hands before refurbishment in the 90s.
This model was relocated to Portugal in 1998 and then purchased in Lisbon in 2017 before being imported to the US, where it just sold at auction for $105,000. The 3-Litre model first debuted in 1953 as the second model produced by Lagonda after the company’s absorption in Aston Martin’s operations. While it shares its chassis with the 2.6 Litre, this model features a larger displacement engine and lower and wider coachwork constructed by coachbuilder Tickford.
This stunning piece of history was originally finished in Sapphire Blue before being repainted to its current Ferrari shade of Avec Metallic in 1998. The body-color wheels feature bright hubcaps and beauty rings, and the cabin is trimmed in classic beige leather. The steering wheel is wood-rimmed, matching the wood dash fascia and door caps.
The 2,922cc inline-six on this model was a larger evolution of the W.O. Bentley-designed powerplant. Features include dual overhead camshafts, a four-bearing crankshaft, twin SU carburetors, and a duplex chain with hydraulic tensioners.
1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL
This gem of a model—a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL—was originally refurbished in 2012 before being sold at auction recently for $136,000. It left the factory finished in Signal Red before being updated by Motoring Investments of San Diego in the 2010s.
The steel 14” wheels on this model wear chrome hubcaps with body color inserts and are mounted with Phoenix whitewall tires that were installed in 2022. The vehicle’s interior is upholstered in a gorgeous tan MB-Tex and features a color-coordinated dash, door panels, and carpets.
Additional interior features include a heater and defroster, floor shifter, hand-crank side windows, an analog clock, and a Becker Europa radio. The instrumentation on the dash includes a 140-mph speedometer, auxiliary gauges, and a tachometer.
For power, this 70s model has a 2.8-liter M130 inline-six with Bosch mechanical fuel injection. It produces 180 horsepower and 193 foot-pounds of torque). The power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
Equipment for this model includes a black soft top, a body-color removable hard top, assisted four-wheel disc brakes, chrome bumpers and overriders, a driver-side mirror, and twin exhaust outlets with polished finishers.
1971 Pontiac GTO Convertible
Next on our tour is another vintage convertible—a 1971 Pontiac GTO. This model was acquired by the seller in 2009, was refurbished in 2015, and sold at auction for $55,000.
The car left the factory finished in Canyon Cooper and was reportedly refinished in the same color during refurbishment. At that time, it also received new front and rear quarter panels. Features worth noting on this dream car include a power-operated Sandalwood soft top, a rear wing, a chrome rear bumper, and dual chrome exhaust outlets.
The interior front buckets and rear bench are upholstered in a complimentary-colored Sienna vinyl with color-coordinated door panels and dashboard. The wheels are 15” Rally II-style with PMD center caps.
Interior appointments include air conditioning, power windows, a period-style Bluetooth stereo, and aftermarket speakers. It also comes with an 8-track player that is not connected and an uninstalled push-button radio.
The cool Formula steering wheel frames a combination gauge, clock, and a 140-mph speedometer. And for power, this stunner of a model features a 400ci V8 with a four-barrel carburetor and a three-speed automatic transmission. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 67k miles, but the total mileage is unknown.
1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible 327/350 4-Speed
Yet another convertible, and the last on our tour, is the edgy and stylish 1966 Chevrolet Corvette. This is seriously one cool car, and it was sold at auction for a smooth $60,200.
The fiberglass body on this stunner is finished in black with exterior features including a black convertible top, split chrome bumperettes, pop-up headlamps, fender vents, dual side-outlet exhaust system with heat shielding, and a rear-mounted antenna. It also displays a classic red-striped stinger hood.
The cabin is also trimmed in matching black. And the 15” turbine-style wheels feature three-eared knock-off spinners. The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, supplementary gauges, and a tachometer. Additional interior features include an aftermarket shifter, a heater and defroster, an analog clock, and a Delco AM/FM radio.
Braking in this model is handled by unassisted discs at all four corners, and the 327ci V8—rated at 350 horsepower—features a Holley four-barrel carburetor, Accel distributor, finned valve covers, and a chrome air cleaner lid and ignition cover. It also has Rams Horn exhaust manifolds and the fuel filter and spark plugs were replaced in 2023.
The five-digit mechanical odometer on this model shows 58k miles, 3k of which were added under the previous owner before it was sold at auction—but the total mileage is unknown.
