Classic Auto tracks the latest auctions, and we’re excited to share four more recently sold vehicles. Here’s the latest lineup from Bringatrailer.com: A 1967 Jeep Jeepster Convertible 3-Speed, a 1957 Volkswagen Beetle, a 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SEL, and a 1959 MG MGA Roadster.
1967 Jeep Jeepster Convertible 3-Speed
This 1967 Jeep Jeepster convertible was a non-running project when its previous owner acquired it in the spring of 2014. During an extended refurbishment project, it received many updates to its body and mechanics.
After stripping and rust repair, the Jeepster was refinished in Glacier White with a new white soft top and reupholstered Marlin Blue vinyl on the interior. Its bumpers are newly replated in chrome, and it has new wipers, a driver-side mirror, V6 badging, body moldings, and a convertible frame.
The Jeepster has new drum brakes, suspension, fuel tank, and steering box. It drives with a 225ci Dauntless V6, a three-speed manual transmission, and a dual-range transfer case. It also has leaf springs and hydraulic shocks in the front and rear with 15” steel mag spinner wheels and Hankook Optimo H724 tires.
Inside, you’ll see front bucket seats, a center console, an inoperative Jeep brand AM radio, a two-speed heater, a locking glove box, matching vinyl, a dash pad, door panels, a console, boot cover, and carpeting. It was auctioned with 20,000 miles on the odometer, 1,800 miles since refurbishment, true mileage unknown, and a clean California title.
The Jeepster sold for $40,000.
1957 Volkswagen Beetle
This 1957 Volkswagen Beetle had just one owner until the seller acquired it in 1998. It was refurbished in 2004, including reupholstering in red leatherette with white piping, repainting in Prairie Beige, hood and trim replacement, seat replacement, floor repair, and a new 1.2-liter flat-four engine.
Features include color-keyed 15-inch steel wheels with VW hubcaps, whitewall Firestone tires, chrome bumpers with overriders, running boards with rubber trim, an oval rear window, quarter vent windows, and dual mirrors. It stops with drum brakes on all four corners.
Inside, it has trim and accents and door panels matching the red leatherette interior with square-weave carpets, front lap belts, floor mats, crank windows, and a sunshade connected to its rear-view mirror. Its dashboard is showing some age.
It had recent service, including turn signal wiring replacement, an oil change, sump plate gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and adjustment of the carburetor, ignition timing, and valve clearances. It was auctioned with a Volkswagen manual, a Clyber manual, service records, refurbishment photos, 33,000 odometer miles, 2,000 recent miles, unknown total mileage, and a clean California title.
It sold for $28,250.
1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL
This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL sedan had the same owner for 29 years when the previous owner acquired it in 1994. A 2011 refurbishment project refinished the body in light ivory, re-chromed the bumpers, refinished the window frames, replaced the lights and emblems, and refreshed the interior leather.
It has a 2.8-liter inline-six with a 4-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power-assisted brakes. Its wheels are 14” steel with painted centers and 205/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. It has a retractable antenna, polished trim, and a hood ornament.
Inside, this vintage Mercedes has air conditioning, power windows, brown Coco mats, a chrome horn ring, an analog clock, and an AM/FM radio. The upholstery is dark brown leather with coordinated door panels, a console, and a dash. The odometer shows 89,000, 53,000 under the previous owner, with total mileage unknown. It was auctioned with a clean California title.
This vehicle sold for $21,500.
1959 MG MGA Roadster
The seller of this 1959 MG MGA Roadster owned it since 1985 after acquiring it from their sibling, who had it for 10 years. Work in that period included adding a replacement MGB 1.8-liter inline-four and four-speed manual transmission and replacing the vehicle’s flooring.
A separate refurbishment in 2021 reinforced the frame, replaced rusted rocker panels, repainted the body red, and refreshed the black interior. Dual SU carburetors have been rebuilt, and other updates include the Pertronix electronic ignition, 60-spoke wire wheels, an aluminum radiator, clutch, wiring, headlights, front shocks, convertible top, and the vehicle’s braking, exhaust, and fuel systems.
Fenders, rocker panels, and other rusty areas were carefully fixed and blended before body repainting. It has a later-year grille, a left-side fender-mounted mirror, a black tonneau cover, and polished exhaust outlets.
On the dash, you’ll see a banjo-style steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, and body-color dashboard housing. Low-back bucket seats have new foam with white and black piped vinyl and a matching center armrest and door panels.
The speedometer and fuel gauge are inoperable. The odometer shows 234 miles, and the total mileage is unknown. It was auctioned with a clean Ohio title.
This Roadster sold for $14,759.
