Indianapolis just hosted its 97th Indy 500 race! In true Indianapolis style, the entire race was a tribute to its rich history, and everything down to the pace car had a bit of nostalgic value to it.
While the pace car itself may not be historic (a brand new, 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray), the Chevy name has been deeply ingrained in the 500 since the inception of both occurred in 1911.
Even more significant than the car, the man who drove the pacing Stingray this year was none other than former Colts' quarterback and current 49er’s coach, Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh is having a good year, after just coming off of a trip to the Super Bowl, he was honored to drive the pace car in Sunday’s race and said as a “longtime racing fan”, participating in this event was a “tremendous thrill”.
If you missed the race, you can catch up on the winners, news and highlights from the Indy 500’s website.
