Peerless was a U.S car manufacturing company that thrived between 1900 and 1930, and was renowned for its cars of luxury and quality. A sixty-horsepower four-cylinder created by this company in 1904 was the lucky break that kept this company going for three decades.
These vintage classic cars were brought made popular by Barry Oldfield, the 'Boy in Green', known for his zest for speed and countless racing records in these cars. The new model from Peerless soon picked up the nickname ‘Green Dragon’. Peerless also earned respect from racing aficionados, making it a name to reckon with in automobile manufacturing. It's reputation grew from coast to coast for manufacturing high performance vehicles with unrelenting quality, durability and luxury.
Their stunning success in racing fields inspired Peerless to build a series of Green Dragons which set many perfect scores in early Glidden Tours, and emerged as the fastest ever in the Mt. Washington Hill climb in New Hampshire. It was judged as the Best American Sports/Competition Car – Pre-WWII in 2004.
Peerless also has many firsts to its credit, including:
-
Installation of the fly ball governor to manage speed
-
Use of a hinged steering wheel for easy access into the cockpit
-
Made extensive use of aluminum in cars
Peerless cars are a rare sight today as very limited editions were manufactured, and they were among the most luxurious cars sold in America.
