1938 Morgan F-Series 3 Wheeler

From Trash to Treasure
Twenty-five years ago, Fred faces with a monumental decision; restore a classic Morgan 3 Wheeler or leave it to rust beneath the Georgia farmhouse where he finds it. Thankfully, Fred chooses to liberate it from the trash pile and bring this gem back to life. “My friend talked me into buying it. Everything was bad on it and it took a lot of work,” he says.
This Morgan Challenges at the Track
Fred drives his Morgan (also known as a Moggie) every day during the summer months, taking it to Vintage Racing events around the area. His Moggie currently runs a Ford side-valve 4-cylinder flathead engine, which makes it a definite contender at the track. “It’s quite fast and beats most of the other cars including the MGs.”
Morgan Cycle Cars Built to Race
Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan founded the Morgan Motor Company in 1910 because he wants to build a vehicle that is bigger than a motorcycle yet smaller and lighter than a car. His first 3 Wheeler, the Runabout, wins the 1913 French Cyclecar Grand Prix at Amiens proving, Morgans are built to race.
Last F-Series 3 Wheeler Produced in 1952
The company decides to focus their efforts on producing four wheeled sports car and the last F-Series rolls off the line in 1952. Fortunately, in 2012 the company resurrects the cycle car and begins producing the Morgan 3 Wheeler, which has an S&S 1983cc V-Twin engine, 82 hp and a top speed of 115 mph.
Every Mile Worth the Restoration Effort
It’s been a 25-year partnership for Fred and his Morgan. Together they rack up the miles driving from race to race but he doesn’t mind. “I’ve probably restored it five times already,” he jokes, but you get the sense he’d drive every mile again as long as it is in his Morgan.
