Since 1983, the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association has been hosting fabulous national classic car shows and events that bring together vintage, classic and collectible car enthusiasts and their families for a jam-packed weekend of hot rodding. The Goodguys PPG Nationals, which takes place at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus every year, is the biggest car show on the organization’s schedule, and the 22nd annual edition on July 12 – 14, 2019 was no exception.
Classic Camaro Looks, Drives Like New
Video Transcript
Drew Yagodnik, Classic Auto Insurance: Hi, this is Drew with Classic Auto Insurance here at the Goodguys Columbus Nationals. Here with a friend of ours, you may have seen him on some other videos before. This is Anthony and he’s also a neighbor. He lives in Indianapolis. We’ve come to get to know each other over the last few years, but he’s got his car here on display. Goodguys is celebrating summer of ’69. So, this gorgeous beast sitting behind us – tell us about how you got it and maybe some of the things that you’ve done.
Anthony, 1969 Camaro Owner: Yeah, this car has been with me for about seven years. Initially, I bought it to minimize the depreciation of a BMW M5 but it’s been a great, honestly great tool to meet other people across the country. Car was originally silver with a black hockey stripe. It was the right color, had rally wheels on it and it just wasn’t much fun to drive. So we changed out the motor. That resulted in more power but less drivability. So we went to a roadster shop chassis, which then necessitated seats that gave support. So it kind of snowballed into what you see here, which is an LS motor swapped into a ‘69 Camaro, roadster shop chassis, Recaro seats, leather interior and some really big wheels, under a silver car I guess.
Drew: Well, I think that’s the key today, right? I mean especially in this market that we see on the insurance side, that different generations, today everyone’s so used to the cars they drive every day. The creature comforts they have, the ride, but to your point, the stance though on collector cars and cars like this are so important for that final finish. But like you said, you want to have that drivability and feel like you’re in your other car and you almost probably want to drive this thing every day.
Anthony: Yes. It’s the best of all worlds. It looks like a classic car but it drives like a new one.
Drew: No, it’s true. Well, look man, I appreciate your time.
Anthony: Thank you.
Drew: Anthony’s a real steward of the collector car world, so you’ve got to follow him, and he knows everybody. Thanks man.
Anthony: Appreciate it.Bottom of Form
