The all new Z/28 Camaro is ready to hit the road, but not without a price; $75,000 to be exact. The previous model of Camaro, the ZL1, had a hefty price tag of $55,000 on its own, but this $20,000 increase for the Z/28 is said to be well worth it.
The price will include the destination charge and gas guzzler tax of $995, but will not include the $1,150 comfort package option, which includes a six-speaker sound system and air condition (both options were removed from the base model in an effort to lighten the car and increase speed).
The Z/28 comes fully equipped with a 505 HP 7-Liter LS7 V8 engine with 481 lb-ft of torque, and the legendary Tremec six-speed manual transmission (there will be no automatic option for the Z/28).
This model is among the first available to have spool-valve dampers. These dampers allow four-way damping control, which perfects the bump and rebound settings for both high-speed and low-speed wheel motions. The car is also fitted with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires on the 19-inch alloy wheels. With lighter Recaro seats, the Z/28 wins by a landslide in the weight department against its predecessors.
After testing at Nüburgring, the Z/28 beat out the Type 991, the Porsche 911 Carrera S and the Audi R8 V10 with a lap time of 7:37.47.
Orders are being placed now, and the new models will begin to ship out in the spring. The very first model (VIN #0001) will be auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale on Jan. 18th.
