Rick:
Hey everybody. This is Rick. I’m here with John at InvisaShield. We’ve got some new and exciting things that are going on in the collector car world. I want everybody to meet John and let him tell you a little bit about what he does here at InvisaShield.
John:
Thanks, Rick. So our company InvisaShield, we do automotive paint protection. What that means to the consumer is we have a product that goes over the exterior of the car. It is visually clear and it will stop rocks, bugs, guts, rain, and basic road debris from damaging your collector or high-end supercar. The product is OEM certified comes with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty against any type of manufacturer defect in the material. In addition to that, it also has a self-healing property built into it. So when let’s say you get a light scratch or a scuff from washing it, or somebody brushes up against the car, you put the car out in the sun and it will re-clear itself over a period of time.
John:
It’s pretty neat stuff. Now, full disclosure. We tell everybody up front, Hey, you’ve got this imperfection, this infection because that goes into the providence of the car. And because it’s a factory defect or something of that nature, it doesn’t necessarily devalue the vehicle because it’s a factory imperfection. The real benefit obviously is that it is semi-permanent. So after let’s say we get this car done, and 10 years later, the film’s all beat up from driving it. We can literally take off the film and it’ll look like the paint will look like this underneath, without question.
Rick:
How do you prep it or take care of it? Do you wax it or polish it, I mean, what goes on there? A lot of people ask, right?
John:
So the first step obviously is we do a full hand and foam can and wash on the vehicle.
Then we’ll do a clay bar treatment to make sure that the paint is as clean as possible. At that point, then we’ll identify any issues that may need to be polished, painted, corrected, touchups things of that nature. Then we do the installation. And after it cures you wash and wax it like you would your paint where it used to take you an hour and for two hours to wash a car, we’re finding it’s 30 minutes to 45 minutes at most. Because once you’ve learned this new technique of cleaning and washing, you’re driving the car more than you’re cleaning it, which is the idea.
Rick:
That’s the idea. Right? Right. And one thing, even on this brand new car, this GT 500, no paint comes out. Perfect. No, and that’s the one thing a lot of people don’t realize and the trained eye, you’ve been doing this so long.
You can see it from 10 feet away, usually. And you basically help even on a brand new cart, make it as perfect as it can be. Correct. Beforehand. So to me that on top of the film, that’s a big added bonus.
John:
It is because it identifies all of the possible issues that could be there in the paint. And obviously, we want things to be as right as they can be before we do an install. So we find something we’ll notify the customer. The one thing we don’t do here at our shop is we don’t wet sand on our cars. The new clear coats, because they’re so thin, and it doesn’t matter who you are manufacturer wise. If somebody has a spot that’s really bad, I will tell them to take it back to the dealership that they purchased it from and let them fix it. That is a manufacturing issue.
Rick:
So I understand that. And that’s a good thing. And honestly, I think that’s a bonus. The person that’s bringing a new car knows you’re not gonna be aggressive. What you told me is that you never take a razor blade to anything and that’s a big deal.
John:
We use all of X, L patterns for the vehicles. We have the ability to go in there. And even if something is not said, it’s gonna be wrapped, we can go in there and change that and make it wrappable. So when we do that, all of the hood lines and the fender lines and everything else, they wrap to create that seamless install.
Rick:
Now, this is great. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the techniques and the skills that you use in action. This would be great. Hang on and we’ll show you some more stuff coming right up.
