Mustangs have held a special place in the hearts of car enthusiasts since Ford’s first-generation model in 1964. For almost 60 years, Ford has debuted many different striking and memorable Mustangs.

1966 Ford Mustang Fastback
The 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback is one of Ford’s most iconic models, and the vehicle is one of the primary reasons why Mustangs are so recognizable. The 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback was featured in the 1968 Steve McQueen film Bullitt. Ford labeled modern iterations of Fastback as “Bullitt” in celebration of the Mustang’s famous appearance in the McQueen film.
The 1966 Fastback came equipped with a 200 cubic inch Thriftpower I6 with 120 horsepower.
2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt
The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt was the third iteration in Ford’s tribute to the film Bullitt. The tribute vehicles are designed to emulate the Mustang Fastback but with greater performance. They also combine the iconic Fastback style with contemporary sleekness. The 2019 model came with a special green coloring that matches the Mustang featured in Bullitt, and it came with adaptive suspension, impressive brake performance, and substantial power. The Bullitt came with a 6-speed transmission and a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 480 horsepower.
1969 Boss 429
The Ford Mustang Boss models debuted in 1969 to compete with the Chrysler 426. There were three different Boss iterations that year, and each was named after its engine. There was the Boss 302 with a 302 cubic inch engine, the Boss 351 with a 351 cubic inch engine, and finally the Boss 429 with a 429 cubic inch V8 that could reach 375 horsepower. The 1969 Boss 429 is one of the rarest Mustangs, and it’s also one of the rarest from the 1969 to 1971 era of American-made vehicles.
1986 Ford Mustang SVO
The 1986 Ford Mustang SVO is a four-cylinder turbocharged memorable Mustang with a Fox-Body. At the time of its release in 1986, four-cylinder engines were common, but they didn’t have the same horsepower capabilities as the SVO. The SVO could reach between 175 to 205 horsepower, and it also came with an aerodynamic body making it a high-performing and powerful vehicle.
1971 Mustang Mach 1
The 1971 Mach 1 was the second iteration of the Mach 1 models. Although the 1971 Mach 1 was equipped with a powerhouse V8 engine from 1971 to 1975, the vehicle was downgraded to a V6 engine after 1975. Before 1975, drivers had four powerful V8 options including the 351 cubic inch Windsor V8, 351 cubic inch Cleveland V8, 390 cubic inch V8, and the 428 cubic inch CJ/SCJ V8.
1993 SVT Cobra
The 1993 SVT Cobras were the final Mustangs featuring the Fox-Body style. Later Mustang iterations came with a sleeker, less boxy style, but we still love the Fox-Body vehicles. It came with a powerful 5.0-liter V8 engine with 235 horsepower, and it was one of the top-performing Mustangs at the time of its release. It also came with upgraded shocks, extra cooling, and larger wheels and brakes compared to other Mustangs.
1965 Shelby GT350
The Shelby GT350, another memorable mustang, is famous for its Guardsman Blue stripes and sleek body, but the vehicle is much more than just style — it also came equipped with a powerful V8. The 1965 model came with a 289 cubic inch V8 with 306 horsepower. The 1965 iteration was mainly created for racing, but Ford focused on upgrading the GT350’s comfort rather than performance for future iterations to cater to the general public.
2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca
Ford upgraded the Boss 302 with the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. It came with impressively tuned suspension, large front splitters, and a roll cage. Ford equipped the vehicle with a powerful 6-speed manual transmission and a 5.0-liter V8 with 444 horsepower. Its curbside weight is 3640 pounds, and it has 380 foot-pounds of torque.
1968 Ford Mustang California Special
Ford created this memorable Mustang only for California, but they also marketed it in Colorado as “High-Country Specials.” With the limited production of this special, very few are available, making them notable car collector vehicles. Ford equipped it with 1965 Thunderbird tailgates, a rear spoiler deck lid, side scoops, and hood pins. It came with different engine choices including both V6 and V8 options.
2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is perhaps the most powerful vehicle in Ford’s history. It comes with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine with 760 horsepower, 626 foot-pounds of torque, and segment-first dual-clutch transmission. It’s even capable of going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds.
