Here’s What’s Next on Project C10
Episode 20 – After successfully fabricating a new part for proper gas flow into the gas tank and organizing all leftover parts, our restored Chevy C10 is ready for a road trip. Project C10’s Rick Drewry and the crew load it onto a trailer to Bethel Frame & Wheel for a wheel and front suspension alignment. After that, we’ll be ready for a test drive, baby!
Episode 20 – Video Transcript
Derek: We’re going to do a new segment here on the build called Today’s Issue on the Build. So, what we’re fighting today is the fuel sender that goes to the gauge that we put in the truck.
We’ve got a classic industry’s gauge; the ohms of resistance and the sender do not communicate properly. We didn’t realize that until we got everything together. We had to go back to the drawing board, drop the tank, pull the sender out, then we started a fishing around trying to figure out what the issue is, how to resolve it.
Successful Part Fabrication
With the sender and the pickup and everything, they share the same mounting flange. So, what we’ve had to do is fabricate quite a bit. So, we’ve taken the original sender and a pickup just like what we have here and we’re able to fabricate all the center mechanisms so we can get the proper flow so nobody runs out of gas. So, we’ve already test fitted it now in the tank as well as with the wiring and we’re ready to go.
Organize Leftover Parts
Rick Drewry: One of the biggest things that I like to do is when you go through a restoration especially, you’re going to have a bunch of bolts, fasteners leftover or the originals, things like that. My recommendation is to go through them, save the good stuff, pitch the stuff that you would have to put work into them that if it’s rusted and you’ve got to sandblast to make it good. Unless it’s a special type of bolt or fastener that you can’t find anywhere, just get rid of it and move on because when you do a restoration, you’re going to buy new anyways, but what I like to do is actually organize them. Most of the stuff that I work on is old cars, American made cars. So, it’s all standard sizes, which makes it a little easier so you don’t get all the metric mixed up. It’s not going anywhere.
So, you can move these, take these with you if you got something you’re working on that’s not in your garage, you can take your bucket of stainless steel washers or whatever with you. So, going through organizing them and try to get the different sizes, getting a chart, one of those indicators that tells you what size everything is to divide them up is good, too. Once you get everything organized and you know you need a 5/16 bolt, a quarter inch bolt, something like that, you can go right over the container, pull it off. Do I have one that’s worth using for this project? Yes. No and then you can move on and the thing is when you buy these bolts doing a restoration, you’re not buying each individual. At least you try not to. You’d rather buy them in bulk because it’s actually cheaper and you have a little bit leftover and they’ go towards the next project that you do.
So, recommendation. Spend the time, organize and get everything labeled so your next project gets that much easier.

All right. We’re getting to the point now where the truck is basically done. So, what we need to do is get this thing loaded up in the trailer, take it up to our friends up at Bethel (Bethel Frame & Wheel, LLC) and frame it and wheel alignment and they’re going to dial in the front suspension for us and then we’re off to test drive.
