If you’re a collector of classic cars, you’re likely aware of how special it feels to own such a vintage treasure. Today, we are featuring four models that recently sold at auction, including a 1966 Shelby Mustang, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, a 1968 BMW, and a 1965 International Harvester.
1966 Shelby Mustang GT350H
This 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350H is one of only around 1,000 models that were produced as part of a partnership between Hertz car rental and Ford. It was refurbished during previous ownership and was purchased by a dealer in 2023 before selling at auction for an astounding $132,000.
The exterior of this model was repainted black with twin gold stripes. Additional exterior features include plexiglass rear quarter windows, a hood scoop, chrome bullet-style side mirrors, and fiberglass brake-cooling scoops on the quarter panels.
The wheels are 14” 10-spoke alloy mounted with Goodyear Blue Streak white-letter tires. Modifications include Koni shocks and a revised front suspension geometry.
The interior of this 1966 classic features black vinyl bucket seats with color-matching carpet and door panels. Appointments include a front-latch-and-link harness, Ford-branded AM radio, and Mustang-branded floor mats. The three-spoke steering wheel is made of wood grain and frames the dash with various auxiliary gauges and a 140-mph speedometer.
The engine was replaced with a 289ci HiPo V8 and features a four-barrel carburetor on a high-rise aluminum intake manifold. Power for this model is sent to the rear wheels through a C4 three-speed automatic transmission.
1969 Chevrolet Camaro
This cool Supercharged LS2-powered 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is a muscle car enthusiast’s dream. It was modified under previous ownership before selling at auction recently for $125,000.
The body was refinished in gray with a gunmetal stripe and exterior features include a rear spoiler, a cowl induction hood, a Detroit Speed electric wiper motor, brushed trim, mirrors, and bumpers, and LED headlights.
The tires are Bridgestone Potenza Sport mounted on 18” and 19” gray five-spoke wheels. This model has also been fitted with a TCI front subframe, a rear torque arm, tubular front control arms and subframe connectors, and a power rack-and-pinion steering system.
The interior is sleekly designed with black leather bucket seats with a color-coordinated headliner, center console, dash, door panels, and parcel shelf. It also has stainless steel trim and equipment including a Vintage Air climate control,
Hurst shifter, a push-button ignition system, power windows, and an Alpine stereo with Infinity speakers and a Kicker subwoofer.
The steering wheel is wrapped in black leather and is mounted to a tilting column that frames the dash. Instrumentation includes a tachometer, supplementary gauges, and an AutoMeter Cobalt 160-mph speedometer.
Power is provided by a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 with an intercooler system, a custom air intake, remote-mounted ignition coil packs, and a Griffin aluminum radiator.
1968 BMW 1600-2 Race Car
This vintage 1968 BMW 1600-2 was converted into a race car and has been driven in several HSR events since 2017. It recently sold at auction for $12,000.
The exterior of the car is finished in a cool two-tone orange and matte black scheme and sports #14 roundels on the trunk and doors. The bumpers have been removed, giving it a boxier look, and tow straps have been added to both the front and rear. Additional exterior details include polycarbonate windows, a sunroof, hood pins, and front turn signal covers.
The wheels are 14” and finished in silver with a basketweave design. They are mounted with Falken Azenis RT615K tires. Modifications include a rear sway bar, adjustable rear spring perches, Bilstein shocks, and Ireland Engineering-modified front coilovers.
The cockpit is stripped as is standard in most race cars and features a roll cage with door bars as well as a Kirkey aluminum race seat with a multi-point harness. Additional interior features include a window net, a Moroso oil accumulator, a Cool Shirt system, a MYLAPS lap time transponder, an emergency electrical cut-off switch, a toggle switch panel, and a sealed battery box. This model is also equipped with a fire suppression system.
The steering wheel has a quick-release mechanism and frames a dash with aftermarket instrumentation with auxiliary gauges and a central 8000-rpm tachometer. There is a 15-gallon ATL fuel cell and Facet electric fuel pump in the trunk and the engine was replaced with a 1.8L M10 inline-four.
1965 International Harvester Scout 80
The International Harvester Scout was a model designed in Fort Wayne, Indiana as a response and competitor to the Jeep from the 60s to the 80s. This 1965 Scout 80 model was acquired in 2012 and underwent refurbishment before selling at auction for $31,999.
The truck was painted a fun shade of turquoise and received rust repairs and new body seals. The steel front bumper is aftermarket and features a pre-runner guard and a Zesuper 9,500-lb winch with synthetic rope. The rear bumper is equipped with a receiver hitch.
The wheels are also aftermarket and are 15” aluminum mounted with Widetrack Baja A/T tires. Modifications include a Crawler Proven Technologies 2” lift kit, a Skyjacker steering stabilizer, Rancho shocks, and a steering linkage replacement.
The interior features black vinyl bucket seats with Dynamat insulation on the floors and diamond-plate style liners. The previous owner also added an electric fuel tank selector.
The steering wheel and dash are finished in gray and include a combination gauge, a trio of Bosch auxiliary gauges, and an 80-mph speedometer. The engine is a 152ci inline-four with a single carburetor and a red block and valve cover. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a T90 three-speed manual transmission.
